I decided to completely leave out tool tips for this implementation since they would be all over the place with icons everywhere on the board, cards and objectives.

Instead I added the help icon which you can click to see a list of all icons in the game - along with its description. Once you played the 3 times or so you know the meaning of the icons anyway.

There are so many icons that it takes time to find the one I want. I'm a beginner, so I think it would be easier for beginners to understand icons if the text was displayed when I hovered the mouse over them.

I wish you'd reconsider this. Aside from the fact that icons take time to locate in the reference (as sarasa1a pointed out), some elements of the UI are also nearly impossible for me to read as-is. For instance, the numbers on the randomized action tiles' seal requirements are far too small for me. A lot of BGA players are accustomed to being able to mouse over things like that and get the information in a more readable format.

Plus one for mouseovers, I use them *a lot* when playing on BGA. It's also a great way to learn a new game.

I understand why you did not want to use tooltips; however, there is a case not currently handled in which a ship is covering a space, and I can not see the icon underneath. A tooltip could be used to show the hidden icon, or moving the ship temporarily aside -- I think now the only way to see the icon is to go back in history before the opponent's ship moved on the space. Thanks

I also kindly ask you to reconsider this.
It is much much more usable when you can hover or long-tap on something you don't know and immediately find the correct helpful text.

It is true that "tooltips would be everywhere". I would just add an option "don't show tooltips" that all expert players can turn off because they know everything by heart.

For a game this complicated, iconography is a hurdle.

Please reconsider this or at least put in a feature that shows the spots zoomed in when hovered. Everything is too small and there are way too many icons to say you'll just remember them. This is a good game that I won't play much because of the poor implementation.

Agree - I've only played this a couple of times and it would be helpful to be able to immediately see what something does.

I think the implementation of Obsession has a ToolTip mode that you can switch on and off - would that be a compromise that could work here?

The glossary of icons is helpful, but I still often have to scroll until I find it (even when selecting a specific category). It would be much faster if I could just hover over the one icon I'm looking at.

I've played Darwin's Journey 9 times, 2 times on BGA at two players. I know the game well, but also think it would be a good idea to have roll over explanations for the crew cards at the beginning of the game. I'd even suggest it for in-game, maybe with a click vs. roll over. There are a LOT of icons and they are hard to remember even for seasoned players. There seems to be resistance to this, but I agree with Wentu above that there are alternatives that hit a middle ground between tooltips everywhere and not showing them at all.
