Turn-based games could be significantly faster if a player could opt of taking optional actions until their next normal impulse. For example, if my only options are afterburner and I've already decided I'm not going to use them for the rest of this round, stopping on impulses where I don't have AP or movement only for this just delays and prolongs a turn-based game.
I can imagine this being a choice with a second "Done" button. I.e. "Done until my next active impulse" or something like that. It would reset to wait on the first impulse where I have an "earned" move or AP that doesn't require using an expendable something like a battery or afterburner. -
